Back-to-School Season: The “First Lesson” on Debunking Rumors and Promoting Legal Awareness
Yuping Police Station Launches a Campaign to Combat Online Rumors, Bringing Awareness-Raising Activities to Schools.
To further advance the special campaign to combat and rectify online rumors, strengthen the foundation of campus cybersecurity, effectively enhance teachers’ and students’ ability to recognize, discern, and prevent misinformation, and bolster their awareness of security precautions, thereby safeguarding information network security, on March 14, officers from the Zhongqu Police Station of Yuping Police Station seized the opportune moment of new‑school‑year orientation to conduct outreach lectures in primary and secondary schools on the theme of “Combating Online Rumors on Campus.”
During the outreach session, police officers tailored their presentation to students’ age and psychological characteristics, drawing on real‑world cases of online rumor‑fighting and crackdowns. Using clear, accessible language, they explained key aspects of internet literacy, thoroughly outlining the harms and consequences of spreading online falsehoods. By illustrating legal principles through specific examples, they encouraged students to develop responsible online habits. They also urged students to promptly report any harmful online content—such as rumors—to the public security authorities. In addition, officers disseminated information on relevant internet laws and regulations, cybersecurity best practices, and self‑protection strategies, offering practical tips to enhance digital safety. These efforts helped students recognize the importance and necessity of cybersecurity, approach online temptations with discernment, resist the influence of negative ideologies, avoid excessive engagement in online gaming, and strengthen their awareness of personal risk and self‑control. At the event, officers further raised awareness about telecom and cyber fraud and broader cybersecurity issues by distributing informational brochures and engaging in interactive discussions.

Through this initiative, the ability of teachers and students to identify online misinformation has been further enhanced, laying a solid foundation for safeguarding a clean and wholesome campus environment. Moving forward, Fuqing Public Security will continue to intensify its efforts to combat and address online rumors, strengthen collaboration between police and schools, and actively foster a healthy and civilized cyberspace.
