The Sanshan Police Station entered the community to carry out a publicity campaign aimed at cracking down on and addressing online rumors.
To build a civilized and harmonious cyberspace, and to guide the public in “refraining from creating, believing, or spreading rumors,” thereby becoming both stewards and practitioners of a healthy online environment, on April 18, 2024, officers and auxiliary police from Sanshan Police Station conducted on-site, face-to-face outreach in Sanfu Huating Community, using the power of the rule of law to safeguard a sound digital ecosystem.
During the event, police officers used real-life cases to educate the public about the dangers of online misinformation and the relevant laws and regulations, helping them understand what constitutes online rumors, their root causes, and the harm they can cause. They also encouraged the public to consciously resist online falsehoods and actively participate in the governance of cyberspace.
Meanwhile, police officers also shared with the public strategies for avoiding both becoming perpetrators and victims of online misinformation. First, exercise caution when evaluating information sources and learn to assess and verify the credibility of news. Second, refrain from blindly forwarding unverified content to prevent inadvertently spreading false information. Stay vigilant and do not readily trust messages from strangers to avoid falling prey to scams. In addition, follow official channels for accurate updates. If you encounter online rumors, report them promptly to the relevant authorities.
Through this public awareness campaign, the general public has gained a deeper understanding of the harms and grave consequences of online misinformation, further enhancing their awareness and ability to prevent and resist such falsehoods. The initiative also encourages citizens to consciously reject online rumors, abide by laws and regulations, and work together to foster a healthy and harmonious online environment.
